This might be the best performance I’ve seen from Raquel Welch yet. She is wonderful in this. Welch is believable as a trash-talking athlete, a stressed single mom, and a conflicted heroine. Except it’s just too bad I could never fully get into this movie. The rules for the sport never make sense to me. It might as well be a gender swapped rehash of “Rollerball”. I will give credit that its last twenty minutes are genuinely exciting. I wish I could have enjoyed the buildup to the ending.
