Deep Cover (2025)

This was a light and breezy sit. The main cast was very likable and had solid chemistry together. One twist I did see coming before the plot revealed it. Not quite as funny as I hoped. But when there’s a good joke, I laughed.

Jurassic World Rebirth

Rehash of the Titans

Both the original Jurassic Park films and newer Jurassic World franchises suffered the same fate - they kind of fizzled out as they went along. Jurassic World Rebirth looks to start over yet again - but kind of stalls out from the start. The biggest issue is that they have painted themselves into a corner: in this world, dinosaurs are not only passe and boring to humans (like, really? after less than a decade of "returning to life") but also dying off - yes, they're relegated once again to …

Superman (2025)

A fast-paced and fun rush of colors, sights, sounds, and comic book lore (lots and lots and LOTS of lore). James Gunn's "Superman" restores the bright and hopeful legacy behind the Man of Steel image while also getting the new DC shared universe off to a nice start.

The Old Guard 2

Chris Kavan - wrote on 07/09/25

Much like the first film, this is a solid - if unremarkable - story about immortals battling over the fate of each other and humanity. A breezy and fun action-comedy with its two lead actors clearly having a blast.

The Life of Chuck

Logan D. McCoy - wrote on 07/06/25

The best movies are sometimes those that almost no one is seeing. This is the case with "The Life of Chuck," a thought-provoking and visually spectacular mix of mystery, philosophy, hope, dreams, and the apocalypse.

28 Years Later

Until some out of character moments of broad comedy poke their heads, "28 Years" is an effectively brought back to life zombie apocalypse thrill ride.

Materialists

Logan D. McCoy - wrote on 06/17/25

I was never madly in love with it. But while its slow to rise story was hard to invest in at first, the dialogue was sharp enough to peak my interest as it cut into the overlying theme about obsession with the value and status one obtains from who they date.
