Gene Hackman and Lee Marvin face off each other as a Kansas crime boss and a Chicago mob enforcer. The rural setting with farm animals and county fairs is a change of pace from just setting it in the big city.

A 70s classic, notable for Gene Hackman playing a bad guy called Mary Ann. Presumably to compensate for this less than masculine moniker he minces his enemies into sausages down on his Okie ranch, while running a white slave trade alongside a more conventional farming business. Mob enforcer Lee Marvin from Chicago travels down to sort this out, and pretty soon there's blood rather than a bright golden haze on the meadow. Terrific sense of atmosphere as two of the greatest actors of the period go up against each other.
