Well, I at least liked it better than the last two movies by Wes Anderson. The visual style is bizarre yet beautiful as always. The dialogue is deadpan but delivered with upmost sincerity. The emotional moments do not work as often as intended. But I like the characters just enough. Benicio Del Toro is good as a wily industrialist trying to outwit his personal enemies and paid assassins alike. But Mia Threapleton is very memorable as his estranged daughter who is also a nun that disapproves of his shady tactics.

"The Phoenician Scheme" is middle of the road Wes Anderson. The script and style are all over the place. Some scenes gave me a laugh while others just fizzled out with a whimper and left me pondering what the punchline was supposed to be. Positives include the engaging bonding transformation between Benicio del Toro and Mia Threapleton (although a little recycled from the Bill Murray and Owen Wilson dynamic in "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou") and a delightfully scene-stealing supporting performance by Michael Cera.
