Like a lot of early horror movies, "I Walked with a Zombie" isn't so much scary as atmospheric. But the story is really deep for its time, full of symbolism and metaphors on colonial history and slavery.

Atmospheric horror movie that looks creepy but not much is really happening onscreen. For a movie about voodoo and zombies, it's surprisingly frank about the evils of slavery and it even incorporates it into the horror elements of the story. For a 1943 release, that's not bad.
