A true story that's almost too good to be true, no portrait of youth and friendship has been this dark, engrossing, and unflinching.

Pretty compelling story incorporating some interesting visual effects. Winslet's performance is so mannered, I'm not sure I would have predicted she had a future as an actress, but it works well enough for the role.

I bought this film without first knowing anything about it (besides the director and actors) and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I liked the two main characters and their relationship very much and I thought the scenes that switched between reality and the girls imagination were done fairly good. The ending scene is quite effective, with it's tense set-up and sad conclusion.
