The title is only a half-lie - while there are indeed more MPAA Ratings Bulletins that have been released this week, none are going to films that will probably be released to the general public at large. Thus, My Little Pony is the lone wide release for this bulletin - kind of sad, but it looks like with the summer winding down, people want to relax and not do things like rate movies or talk about movies being rated (I kid - I love this blog!). In any case, it's not very exciting, but if you're going to stick with me - I guess you're going to have to deal with it.
So our lone entry, My Little Pony: The Movie is based on the quite popular "Friendship is Magic" series that appeals to pre-teen girls and also middle-aged men. That's no joke, the whole "Brony" scene is alive and well and even sparked a documentary - Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony - so don't be surprised to find a few of them at your local multiplex when this film drops. In any case, the gang's all here - Tara Strong as Twilight Sparkle, Ashleigh Ball as Applejack and Rainbow Dash, Andrea Libman as Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy, Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity and Princess Luna and some big names have come on board in the form of Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber, Michael Peña, Sia, Taye Diggs, Uzo Aduba and Zoe Saldana. I don't know the first thing about the show, but the movie will involve singing, friendship, overcoming adversity and, I assume, a happy end. I'm sure the fans will be delighted but beyond that I don't know if it will get wide appeal. Rated PG for mild action.
