There are two pretty big movies that are going to fight for your viewing pleasure this weekend, and a few leftovers to fight for the scraps.
1) The Social Network has been getting the biggest buzz since Inception. David Fincher's look at the founding of Facebook has "award-winning film" written all over it. I admit I was skeptical when I heard about this idea, but I had faith in Fincher as he has proven a worthwhile filmmaker time and time again. Looks like he's hit another one out of the part - interested to see how Jesse Eisenberg works out in a meatier role.
2) If you can't bear the hype, you might scoot on over to Let Me In. By all accounts, a pretty closer recreation of Let the Right One In (which I thought was rather good) - this is vampire film with teeth. If Chloe Moretz and Kodi Smit-McPhee can capture that same emotion and feeling that the original had, it should be just as good. It's a bit somber, but audiences looking for a smart horror film should check this out.
3) On to more horror - the long-delayed Case 39 with Renée Zellweger is also coming out. While the previews make a good case, I can't see this opening up huge numbers partly due to the delay and partly because it looks like every other mediocre horror film in the past few years. Might be a good rental, but that's about as much excitement as I can muster for this one.
Those are the big three for this week - I have a feeling we'll see a lot of the Social Network - now and during awards season - but I'll update that feeling in my review.
