Although it's only preliminary, reports say that Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, The Dollhouse) is in final negotiations to direct The Avengers - the film that would bring together all the Marvel heroes - Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk - into one film.
If this comes to fruition, it will bring together the man responsible for some of televisions greatest pop-culture touchstones and the world of Marvel. The resulting nerdgasm may well destroy the fabric of society... well, maybe not, but it's hard to imagine a greater combination.
Granted, The Avengers isn't slated for release until at least 2012, so things may well change - but it's welcome news to me anyway.
