Not too much excitement in this week's bulletin. I guess the ratings board much be gearing up for Thanksgiving - or Black Friday - or both - as there is but a single wide release film getting its ratings due. That would be Bombshell - a film that helps define the MeToo movement as it follows the story of former Fox News head Roger Ailes and the toxic environment he fostered while running the network. I can already taste the tears of butthurt incels who are going to tank the scores of this film for pushing a liberal agenda against one of their heroes. In other words, trolls ahead! Otherwise it's slim pickings around here - well, there's always next time.
There's no denying that Bombshell is tackling a tough subject - and a current one as well. Starring Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly, Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson and Margot Robbie as Kayla Pospisil - a trio of women who went up against Fox News head honcho Roger Ailes (John Lithgow) and the toxic environment he fostered while presiding over the network. Because this is still an ongoing topic of conversation, the film features plenty of actors taking on roles of people in current events - Malcolm McDowell as Rupert Murdoch, Richard Kind as Rudy Giuliani, Alice Eve as Ainsley Earhardt, Anne Ramsay as Greta Van Susteren and Tricia Helfer as Alisyn Camerota are just a few of the names that should sound familiar. Lionsgate is taking a big chance on this - as well as releasing it in a very competitive slot - December 13 (Jumanji: The Next Level, Richard Jewell and Black Christmas all release on the same day) - thus I'm afraid a movie that should contain a lot of gravity and some well-deserved scrutiny into the current state of affairs is going to get buried. I wonder what the current talking heads at Fox News will have to say about it - I'm not holding my breath, but I'm going to take a wild stab and say nothing good. Rated R for sexual material and language throughout.
