There is only really one film worth discussing this time around but, boy, is it a biggie. That's right, Christopher Nolan is here to save what is left of the summer movie season even as theaters still aren't quite sure how they're going to re-open amidst a deadly pandemic. Regardless of how you feel about how things are moving, Tenet is going to be one of the first, big films out of the gate... even if it did get a little push back recently. For those truly starving for a theatrical movie experience, however, it could be the turning point.
I have no qualms admitting that Nolan has truly impressed me. Even his less-than-stellar offerings (like, uh, Interstellar) are heads and shoulders above most of the movie rabble. With films like Memento and Inception, he gives you films to think about - and I mean really think - which some people might not like but me, I like a challenge. That is why Tenet has me excited. With its time-bending story line and impressive cast (John David Washington, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Elizabeth Debicki, Robert Pattinson, Michael Caine, Himesh Patel, Clémence Poésy and Kenneth Branagh among them) this looks to be another atypical film - but very much Nolan in his prime. I have specifically made a point to avoid spoiling myself and, aside from the first trailer, have avoided any information about the film - thus I know that Washington plays the main character drawn into a huge international conspiracy and that it involves something named Tenet and also involves bending time. That's it - don't tell me anything else, I want my mind to be blown. And given what Nolan has done in the past - I think I'm safe to say this isn't going to be a straight-forward film, but it will be entertaining as hell. Now, let's just hope it comes out before the end of summer. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence
