With a little over a week before Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time hits theaters, the question remains: will we finally get a decent video game adaption on the big screen?
The only thing I get out of the trailer is that it looks like a quintessential summer film: plenty of effects, probably short on plot and characters. Still, it will probably have a decent opening weekend then fade fast. The marketing has been relentless too - hopefully people won't be sick of the whole thing before it premiers.
Even with all the faults, it still looks like it has a better chance to make its mark than any video game-based film in a long time. I mean, it has to be better than Chun-Li, right? I'm not saying it's going to win any awards or break any records, but at least it looks like it will entertain me, and probably be at least a little enjoyable.
Hyped? Sure, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, but only because I want so much to see it succeed and vindicate my theory that video game movies can be good.
