With the blockbusters out of the way, it's not entering into the more subdued time of the year. And by subdued, I mean the dumping grounds for less than stellar movies. In this case we have a horror film (a kind of reboot sequel) and some kind of political drama. I have a feeling that neither film is going to make much of an impact at the box office and that we're looking at a top five that may be switched around a bit, but still very familiar.
TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D We've already seen a revival of this franchise once with the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the 2006 Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning - neither of which I found particularly entertaining. This film serves a true sequel to the 1974 original - and while it's nice to see Bill Moseley and Gunnar Hansen again, I have a feeling this is going to be another run-of-the-mill horror film where a lot of pretty, young people are going to get killed in various ways. I would say unless you're a hardcore horror fan, this deserves a pass. It might serve as a way to pass the time on a rainy, boring day - but that's all.
I may be wrong - it has been known to happen - but I'm confidant that neither of these two films is going to have much of an impact on the box office. I'll return Sunday with all the details.
