Finally, after weeks of disappointing returns, the summer has a true blockbuster. Toy Story 3 opened with $109 million - the best Pixar opening yet, and third best opening for an animated film (Behind Shrek 3, and 2). Toy Story 3 received a big boost from 3D, earning 60% of its take from those screens.
The Karate Kid remake stood strong, also surpassing the $100 million mark in its second week. Meanwhile, the film I saw, Jonah Hex, completely bombed in 8th place with an anemic $5.1 million. Nope, not even Megan Fox in the world's tightest corset could make the movie any better.
I have a feeling Toy Story 3 is going to stay on top for a while, probably until the one-two punch of Twilight: Eclipse and Last Airbender hits July 1st. Stay tuned until then.
