Lavishly staged dramatization of the Lewis & Clark expedition. It plays fast and loose with the historical accuracy. Which I would excuse if it was more enjoyable.
But it is a bit of a chore. There is not much action in the story. Charlton Heston and Fred MacMurray seem like they were going through the motions.
But Donna Reed is quite good as Sacagawea. The movie ends on a bittersweet note which she gives a truly moving performance.
