Down with the Sickness

As I feel under the weather today, I thought what better time than to relive all the diseases that movies have given us. At least I know I don't have it as bad as some people.
1) 28 Days Later / 28 Weeks Later - You can't convince me these are zombie movies (which is why they're not on my list) - It's a very specific diseases called RAGE that infects people. They don't necessarily want to eat …
New Movies to Crave: Return to Wall Street, Owls and You Again
Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/24/10 at 10:14 AM CT
If anyone knows about greed being good, it's certainly Hollywood. But will audiences decide that a second time around that Wall Street will be a good bet?
1) I guess we'll see, but Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps looks to be the best new film opening. Even if you hate Shia LaBeouf by now, it will be good to see all the old players back in the game. I can't say I'm dying to see the film, but I …
The Ultimate Fantasy Football Team Movie Edition

Are you ready for some football?! I'm not a crazy fan, but I do enjoy following the games if only to see how various players are doing around the league - I don't currently have a favorite team Pro wise (college wise? GO HUSKERS!). I got to thinking, if you could draft the ultimate team, with fake players, how would it turn out. To my knowledge, something like this:
QB: "Steamin" Willie …
New DVD and Blu-Ray Releases to Crave This Week: Hope You Like the Hood
Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/21/10 at 12:28 PM CT
Not a very big week for new releases, but at least the one big entry looks entertaining.
1) Hope you look Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott teaming up once again, because Robin Hood is really the only game in town. While it didn't exactly destroy the box office, it looks like it will be a nice action/adventure - much like the last time the two teamed up with Gladiator. Will it be as good? No. …
Weekend Box Office: The Town in Command, Easy A Makes the Grade
Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/20/10 at 12:27 PM CT
Looks like Ben Affleck has been missed as the director / actor's The Town came out on top with $23.8 million and high praise from the mostly male audience. Although it came in second place, the Emma Stone comedy Easy A may well be the top winner. Why? Because while it only made $18.2 million - the budget was a scant $8 million (compared to around $37 million for The Town). It also was a good bet …
You're Not the Boss of Me... Thankfully
Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/18/10 at 02:01 PM CT
My job is okay, but my boss is great... I mean he lets me work on stuff like this blog and processing films for all you fine folks out there. Sure, I do what I'm told, but when things get boring I know I can surf the net without fear or reprisal. Other bosses wouldn't be so kind or forgiving, but some bosses are downright terrors.
Good thing I didn't have to deal with any of these bosses from …
New Movies to Crave: On The Town with the Devil - Easy, Eh?
Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/17/10 at 09:47 AM CT
After a few rather blah weeks, at least the box office is finally offering some much-needed variety to spice things up.
1) No doubt with Oscars on the mind, Ben Affleck's The Town looks to elevate the crime / drama to new levels. Hey, if that creepy poster with a nun masks is any indication, it should b a treat. Affleck has been a quiet for awhile, so hopefully this spells a triumphant …
So You Want to Rule the World...
Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/16/10 at 10:47 AM CT
Lofty ambitions for sure, and it requires a certain team... an evil team. One thing that Last Action Hero got right is that in this world, evil can win - so let's bring together the baddest of the bad and see who can help me conquer you worms.
The Brains - Every team needs a mastermind and there's no one whose mind is more masterful than Hannibal Lecter. Pros: Highly Intelligent, …
New DVD Releases to Crave This Week: Persian Prince, Juliets' Letters
Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/14/10 at 10:05 AM CT
I can at least be a little happier that there are releases this week that actually appeal to me. Whether they appeal to other people is another story, but as far as I'm concerned this is a decent week.
1) No doubt that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is on top of my list. I did see this in theaters, and while it may not have completely gotten rid of the video game / movie stigma, it was a …
Weekend Box Office: Resident Evil Makes a Meal of the Competition
Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/13/10 at 09:13 AM CT
Not surprising, given there were no other wide-release movies opening, Resident Evil: Afterlife debuted at #1 with a $27.7 million opening. The opening represents a series best - not bad for a film franchise that only loosely resembles the game its based off on. Once again, 3D tickets were a factor in the opening.
While Resident Evil can boast a good take - the next six films combined …
